BALRA Committees

Formation: Committee membership selections will be made by the Executive Board based upon indication of preference made by the individual members of the organization. Each committee shall include a representative of the Executive Board to act as a liaison to the Executive Board. New committees may be established by a simple majority vote at a general meeting.

Standing Committees: (It is not required that all committees be established each year.)

  1. Program Committee. The Program Committee shall be responsible for selecting the topics of and engaging the speakers for specific meetings of the organization.
  2. Orientation/New Members Committee. The Orientation/New Members Committee shall be responsible for solicitation of new members and providing information to and conducting orientation meetings for new members.
  3. Policy Committee. The Policy Committee shall be responsible for making recommendations for new policies and updating existing policies, such as Bay Area Law Firms' Office Interview Guidelines and San Francisco Law Firms' Policy Regarding Law School Transcripts.
  4. Nominations Committee. The Nominations Committee shall be responsible for the nomination of the four generally elected officers of BALRA, as set forth in Article V.
  5. Social Committee. The Social Committee shall be responsible for the organization of the annual holiday event held in December and for BALRA-sponsored receptions for NALP conferences.
  6. Survey Committee. The Survey Committee shall be responsible for the formulation, compilation of results and distribution to the membership of surveys, such as the BALRA Salary Survey.
  7. Diversity Committee. The Fair Employment & Practices Committee shall be responsible for the exploration and support of methods to increase the legal career opportunities available to law students and graduates who are ethnic minorities, older, disabled, or gay or lesbian.
  8. Bylaws Committee. The Bylaws Committee shall be responsible for the review of the bylaws, the recommendation of any necessary changes and the publication of revised bylaws.
  9. Mentor Committee. The Mentor Committee shall work to establish mentor/mentee relationships between junior and senior members of BALRA.
  10. Technology Committee: The Technology Committee shall be responsible for creating a new and improved website, wikispace or blog to improve the quality, ease and frequency of online member interaction and resource sharing.
